Sample Question 1 of 3
A field technician from a Lethbridge dealer arrives at a farm yard to repair a broken hydraulic hose on a loader. The machine is parked on a slope near an overhead power line, it is windy, and the owner's children are playing nearby. The dealer requires a field level hazard assessment before any work starts. What should the technician do first?
A) Walk the site, list the hazards and the controls on the hazard assessment, and fix them before starting the repair
B) Start the repair at once, since a hose change is a short job and the hazards can be dealt with as they come up
C) Phone the shop to ask whether the job can be done, and then begin the repair while waiting for them to call back
D) Complete the hazard assessment form at the end of the job, once it is clear which hazards were actually present
Correct answer: A

A field level hazard assessment is done before work begins: the slope, the power line, the wind and bystanders are identified and controlled, for example by moving the machine and keeping people clear. Filling it in afterwards defeats its purpose, starting at once leaves the hazards in place on the grounds that the job is short, and a phone call to the shop does not identify or control anything on site.

Sample Question 2 of 3
While checking lateral runout on a newly mounted spoke wheel rim with a dial indicator held against the machined rim flange, you zero the gauge at the first spoke and record a high reading of +1.6 mm and a low reading of -0.9 mm during one full wheel revolution. What is the total lateral runout?
A) 3.2 mm
B) 0.7 mm
C) 2.5 mm
D) 1.25 mm
Correct answer: C

Total indicator reading (total lateral runout) is the algebraic difference between the highest and lowest readings: +1.6 mm - (-0.9 mm) = 1.6 + 0.9 = 2.5 mm. 0.7 mm subtracts the sizes and ignores the signs, 1.25 mm halves the total, and 3.2 mm doubles the high reading.

Sample Question 3 of 3
The operator of a grader at a Thunder Bay municipal yard says air comes out of the floor vents only, whichever mode is chosen, so the windshield will not clear. Temperature control and blower speeds work normally. With the dash panel off, the mode actuator is heard running, but the door does not move. What is the most likely cause?
A) A blend door actuator stuck at full heat, which sends all air to the floor
B) A stripped mode actuator gear or a broken link between it and the door
C) A blower resistor that has failed on the speeds used for the defrost vents
D) A plugged cab air filter that lets the air reach only the floor ducts
Correct answer: B

The mode door decides which vents get air. If the actuator runs but the door stays put, the drive between them has failed: a stripped gear inside the actuator or a broken or loose link. The blend door controls temperature, not where the air goes, a resistor controls speed, and a plugged filter weakens all the vents equally.
