Sample Question 1 of 3
A sprinkler fitter is hanging new branch lines seven metres above a warehouse floor in Mississauga, working from a self-propelled articulating boom lift. To reach a hanger location, the fitter has to lean out past the platform guardrail. What fall protection is required while reaching beyond the guardrails?
A) A safety net rigged under the steel bay by the general contractor before work starts
B) A full-body harness with a lanyard tied to the manufacturer's anchor point in the platform
C) A warning line set two metres back from the platform edge, with a spotter watching
D) A waist-height wire rope tied off to the roof purlins around the working area
Correct answer: B

On a boom-type platform, a worker who leans or reaches outside the guardrail must be tied off with a full-body harness and lanyard to the anchor point the manufacturer provides. Nets, warning lines and wire ropes do not stop a fall from the basket.

Sample Question 2 of 3
A journeyperson in Oshawa sees an apprentice about to install a pendent sprinkler head in an upright position in a residential occupancy, where the water distribution would be wrong. The apprentice is eager but has only a few months of experience, and the crew is on a deadline. What is the best immediate mentoring action?
A) Stop the work and coach the apprentice on the right installation
B) Reassign the apprentice and fix the installation yourself later
C) Let the work finish, then note the mistake in the evening report
D) Have the apprentice read the data sheet after the shift is over
Correct answer: A

Stopping the error at once prevents a wrong installation and gives a coaching moment about the listing limits of pendent and upright sprinklers and why orientation matters to the spray pattern.

Sample Question 3 of 3
An inspector in Ottawa asks how often NFPA 25 requires the main drain test on a wet pipe system's risers, and when else it must be done. The inspector asks about the schedule of the risers in a building that is partly occupied by a school. What is the rule?
A) Monthly at each riser, and only when the owner asks for it in writing
B) Every five years at the main riser, and after any hydro test of the system
C) Annually at each riser, and after a control valve is closed and reopened
D) Every three years at the highest floor, and after each fire alarm
Correct answer: C

The main drain test is done annually at each riser, and also after a control valve has been closed and reopened, to prove that the valve is fully open and the supply is clear.
